Loblolly pines (Pinus taeda) are one of the many pine species found across the southeastern United States, and play an important role both economically and ecologically. Pine stands can improve soil and water quality, create wildlife habitat, and create products that bring billions of dollars to the local economy every year. Therefore, maintaining healthy pines is a priority. But loblolly pines can face several challenges including pine needle diseases. These diseases do not just impact the trees aesthetically but can also reduce tree growth and in some cases lead to tree mortality. But what pine needle diseases should we worry about in the southeast? In this webinar, Dr. Caterina Villari will discuss common loblolly pine needle diseases, their signs, and what can be done to manage them.
