Participate to learn about experiences, results, and lessons learned during on-farm, field scale demonstrations in which farmers examined different cropping systems, plant genetics, soil moisture monitoring equipment, crop physiology monitoring techniques, and irrigation system control and monitoring equipment.
The project director and participants in the Northern Plains portion of Texas High Plains Initiative Conservation Innovation Grant (CIG) 69-3A75-11-184 will discuss the results of the project during this webinar. The purpose of the CIG project was to demonstrate strategic irrigation system and crop system management technologies and practices that would result in water savings across the project region and also best practices that are applicable nationwide to regions facing similar resource concerns. Note that all water savings and economic analysis were based on measured gross water volumes pumped and actual farmer expenses. Remote sensing of crop evapotranspiration and variable rate irrigation were also examined, but on a more limited basis. Support activities and local web-based tools will also be discussed.
