Participants will learn when to use National Engineering Handbook Part 642 specifications and how to prepare a specification package.
USDA NRCS uses National Engineering Handbook (NEH) Part 642 – Specifications for Construction Contracts to specify work that the agency classifies as “project” work. These specifications are sometimes used for “non-project” work. NEH 642 specifications are referred to as “national standard specifications.” NRCS design engineers are tasked with compiling a specification package composed of select national standard specifications and the construction drawings. The specifications and drawings describe the work that is bid for a construction project. This webinar will review agency policy related to the use of NEH 642 specifications, discuss developing a bid schedule, explain the process of writing the construction details that accompanies the individual national standard specifications, discuss proper specification writing language, and cover some do’s and don’ts of specification writing.
Participants may attain two (2) COR Continuous Learning points (CLPs) by uploading their certificate of webinar completion when they make their continuous learning point request in FAITAS.
This webinar is sponsored by the USDA NRCS Conservation Engineering Division with support from the National Design, Construction and Soil Mechanics Center and the Central National Technology Support Center.
