About our speakers:
Dr. Melissa Kreye Assistant Professor of Forest Resource Management in the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management at Penn State. She received her bachelor’s and Master of Science degrees in Fisheries Biology from Humboldt State University, and a Ph.D. in Forest Resources and Conservation from the University of Florida, where she focused on economics and policy-related issues. Dr. Kreye’s research and extension work focuses on understanding the many ways that people value forests, and how these values guide the management of public and private forests. In many cases she works with state agencies and conservation advocacy groups to advance policies and programs that support the interests of private landowners and the public. She has published very extensive on these topics.
Calvin Norman He is Forestry and Wildlife Extension Educator for Cambria and Blair Counties with Penn State. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Michigan Technological University, with a dual degree in Forestry and Wildlife Ecology and Management, and a Master of Science in Forest Resources from Clemson University. He has worked as an industrial forester for a regional timber firm in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, where he co-managed 10,000 acres of forestland. In addition to managing industrial forestland, he helped to manage land for private forest landowners, an experience that has helped him to understand the practical application of forestry and land management.
