View this webinar to learn about the interrelationships among the breeding, wintering, and migrating phases of the annual cycle of migratory birds and the critical importance of migratory stopover and wintering habitats.
Conservation and management efforts directed at migratory birds have traditionally focused on habitats used during the breeding season. However, long-term studies on migratory songbirds suggest that habitat use during the non-breeding period may influence the performance of other annual cycle events, such as migration and reproduction. In this webinar, evidence is presented linking winter habitat conditions to the timing of migration and reproductive performance for migratory songbirds. Dr. Peter Marra, Research Scientist, Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute Migratory Bird Center, argues that it is only through the identification of key limiting factors – within the context of the entire annual cycle – are we able to develop effective strategies for species conservation. He offers recommendations regarding the appropriate scales for undertaking management and conservation actions to benefit migratory birds.
This webinar is sponsored by the USDA NRCS National Wildlife Team located at the Central National Technology Support Center.
